Workshop leatherwork basics & small bag 14/05
Leather is a wonderful material. It can be soft or stiff, supple or smooth, and it lasts incredibly long. Moreover, it actually becomes more beautiful with use and over time. It gives me great satisfaction to work with leftover leather from the fashion and furniture industries, because I find it a shame that an animal’s hide is wasted, thrown away while it is still a beautiful material.
These discarded hides, for me, reflect how we coexist with animals in our society. During this day, I will show you different types of leather and let you feel their textures, and I will guide you through the creation process of various handmade leather items. Afterwards, you will get hands-on experience. First, with a test piece to try out different stitches and techniques. In the afternoon, you will work on a small pouch or belt bag.
There are various designs to choose from, and I can help you make adjustments according to your own ideas. Depending on your pace and chosen design, you will either take home a completed pouch/belt bag or receive the materials and knowledge to finish it at home. In addition to the bag and practice stitches, you will receive the bag pattern and leather needles for future projects.
All materials are included in the cost. We work with leftover leather from the clothing and furniture industries, and I provide a diverse selection for you to choose from. If you wish, you can purchase additional leather after the course for new projects at home.
