Craft Workshops in Apprenticeship at De Ceuvel:
In these workshops, you’ll learn old crafts using simple tools and sustainable techniques. You’ll work by hand and create your own pieces step by step – basic stitches, a bag, a shoe. This way, you get to know the material and bring back respect for the leather and the animal that once wore it. And you’ll create something beautiful that can last a very long time.

Leather is a beautiful material. It can be supple or stiff, soft or smooth, and it lasts incredibly long. In fact, it usually becomes even more beautiful with use and over time. I find it deeply satisfying to work with scrap leather from the fashion and furniture industries because I believe it’s a shame to waste the hide of an animal – to throw it away while it’s still such a beautiful material. These discarded hides reflect how we coexist with animals in our society.
During this day, I will show and let you feel different types of leather and take you through the making process of various handmade leather pieces.
Then you’ll get to work yourself. First with a sample piece to try out different stitches and techniques. In the afternoon, you’ll make a small pouch or belt bag. There are several models to choose from, and I can help you make any custom adjustments based on your own ideas.
Depending on your pace and chosen version, you’ll either take home a self-made pouch/belt bag or receive the materials and knowledge to finish it at home.
In addition to the bag and practice stitches, you’ll also receive the bag pattern and leather needles for future projects.
All materials are included in the cost. We work with leftover leather from the clothing and furniture industries. I’ll provide a varied selection for you to choose from. If you wish, you can also purchase extra leather after the course for new projects at home.
