Waterwork

In Waterwork, artist Marjolijn Boterenbrood and percussionist Mei-Yi Lee trace the life of water: its rhythms, its power, and its continuous movement. Together, we listen closely to the murmuring, clicking, cracking, and breaking sounds of water and underwater life—from microorganisms to unseen forms of existence.
Waterwork reflects on water as both witness and active force. Through waves, currents, sounds, and subtle changes, the work follows how a site transforms over time.
Water absorbs, erodes, connects, and creates. Tuning into the voice of water becomes active listening: a way of sensing the changes of a site and uncovering the lives, histories, and possible futures embedded within it.
About the artists
Marjolijn Boterenbrood
Multidisciplinary artist
Marjolijn Boterenbrood is a multidisciplinary artist whose works primarily revolve around the concepts of space and places through sensory impressions. Boterenbrood works through these subjects to reveal the hidden intrinsic aspects of the certain places that she visits. Through this, the places can be fully understood through the different dimensions that have been accentuated in Boterenbrood’s works.
