Tijdens Imagine Film Festival gaan we in gesprek met de Britse filmmaker Ben Wheatley – bekend van onder meer Kill List, Sightseers, High-Rise, Rebecca en recent Meg 2: The Trench – én met zijn vaste producent Andy Starke. Samen vormen zij het creatieve hart van Rook Films, het productiehuis dat zij in 2008 oprichtten met scenarist Amy Jump.

Wheatley begon zijn carrière in de reclamewereld en maakte korte films voordat hij doorbrak met zijn eigenzinnige genrefilms. Hij staat bekend om zijn werk binnen de thriller- en horrorgenres, waarin hij vaak zwarte humor en satire verwerkt, en om zijn vermogen om moeiteloos te schakelen tussen indieprojecten en grote studiofilms.

Andy Starke produceerde, naast Wheatleys films, ook opvallende titels als The Duke of Burgundy, The Greasy Strangler, In Fabric en Possessor. During Imagine Film Festival, we’ll be talking with British filmmaker Ben Wheatley – known for Kill List, Sightseers, High-Rise, Rebecca, and most recently Meg 2: The Trench – and his longtime producer Andy Starke. Together, they form the creative core of Rook Films, the production company they founded in 2008 with screenwriter Amy Jump.

Wheatley began his career in advertising and made short films before breaking through with his distinctive genre films. He’s known for his work in the thriller and horror genres, often blending dark humor and satire, and for his ability to seamlessly move between independent projects and major studio productions.

Andy Starke, in addition to producing Wheatley’s films, has worked on striking titles such as The Duke of Burgundy, The Greasy Strangler, In Fabric, and Possessor. With extensive experience ranging from independent productions to international co-productions, Starke knows better than anyone how to develop, finance, and bring original ideas to life – both within and beyond Hollywood.
