Urban Birding International Symposium Amsterdam 2025

Urban Birding International Symposium Amsterdam 2025
Birds and Cities: What can we learn from each other? A European exchange about creating bird-inclusive cities.

How do birds live in and around European cities and how can we better protect them? On September 25, 2025, the Amsterdam Bird Working Group (Vogelwerkgroep Amsterdam) is organizing the Urban Birding International Symposium at Pakhuis de Zwijger. We will gather with experts from five European cities – London, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Bayreuth and Amsterdam – to talk about birds and people living together in cities and how we can strengthen international collaboration between cities. Key themes include urban ecology, migratory routes, light pollution, and community engagement. The symposium is part of the 2025 Bird Festival and is organized in collaboration with Vogelbescherming Nederland and Pakhuis de Zwijger. We invite everyone working at the intersection of birds and cities to join the event on bird-inclusive cities: urban birders, (citizen) scientists, policy makers, urban ecologists, city planners, landscape architects, designers, educators, and representatives from municipalities, NGOs, and conservation groups.
