Tomo Katsurada x Jonny Nash

Katsurada now lives in Amsterdam and is best known as the founder and frontman of the psychedelic band Kikagaku Moyo. His music moves freely between folk, psychedelia and ambient, and has a meditative quality without ever coming to a complete standstill. Together with Jonny Nash, Katsurada is crafting a sound that is playful and spacious, with a strong focus on texture, repetition and subtle shifts in tone. At times soft and tranquil, at others slightly alienating, but always in motion.
On his recent album ‘At The Emerald Pool’, made with Jonny Nash, this approach is given free rein. The two musicians allow melodies and sounds to slowly intertwine, creating an open, almost weightless sound in which a lot is happening without it ever feeling cluttered. It’s exactly the sort of music to start the day quietly with, especially when the artist and the audience are literally sitting in the same circle.
