Twice a year, we host Tip Off, a gathering where young artists come together to discuss pressing questions in a relaxed, collaborative setting. Held around the table, in the midst of our expo space, we want to foster a space where everyone can help one another, exchange ideas, and share knowledge. We select a relevant topic in advance that resonates with emerging visual artists.

The theme of this edition is: Turning the Personal into Universal - How Do We Bridge Individual Experience and Collective Understanding?

Moderator Leia Amerding will guide the evening. Leia is a curator, creative producer, speaker, and moderator whose work focuses on race theory, African contemporary art, and amplifying the voices of young visual makers of color. She is currently participating in the two-year Young OSCAM programme.

The first photographer that will share their insight and experiences on this topic is Tengbeh Kamara, whose work will be on show in the expo during this edition. The exhibition 'Why You Left, Who You Left' showcases an intimate documentation of Tengbeh’s father's return to Liberia and the family left behind in the Netherlands and examines what it means to feel at home somewhere.

In an intimate collaborative group setting around the dinner table, where everyone can contribute, Tengbeh will be joined by photographer MAryam Touzani. A visual storyteller whose work delves into themes of diaspora, identity, and existential rootlessness. Drawing from her personal experience navigating Dutch and Moroccan heritage, her practice reveals the hidden narratives that emerge where these cultures overlap, conflict, and intersect.

Together they will initiate the conversation by reflecting on their practices, where personal narratives become a means of connecting with broader audiences and other makers. After their introductions, there will be space for broader discussion, where all participants can contribute their thoughts, introduce their work for feedback or ask questions.
