The Sonic Silk Road: Transcultural Exchange through Dance Music

The Silk Road was an ancient network of cultural, economic, and spiritual exchange connecting Eastern and Western Eurasia for centuries. The Sonic Silk Road explores how modern dance music has similarly evolved into a living network of cultural connection, translation, and transformation. Presented by global creative movement Interdependence, the event brings together a panel discussion and artist showcase examining how musical lineages, dance music traditions, and digital technologies flow across borders and are continually reimagined on contemporary dancefloors. The conversation will consider themes of authenticity, appropriation, lineage, storytelling, diaspora, and political solidarity.
The evening continues on the dancefloor, where a curated lineup of artists working across cultures and musical traditions puts these ideas into practice through their sound. The event takes place at Theatre de Richel, a historic and intimate performance space in central Amsterdam where our diverse Interdependence community will have the opportunity to deepen connections across cultures, scenes, and borders.
