The digital euro as a catalyst for change

A necessary strengthening of the public monetary system
The current monetary and financial system primarily serves the wealthy and falls short where it really matters: in tackling the environmental and social crises that will dominate this century. The arrival of the digital euro presents a rare tipping point, offering us an opportunity to fundamentally overhaul the system. Seizing this opportunity, however, requires direction and decisiveness: policymakers, central bankers, politicians and civil society organisations will need to set aside their differences and jointly determine the course we take.
