The Dark Side of Chocolate

Julija Hartig presents: Be-Longing! #2
A series of concerts and events at Splendor, hosted by Julija Hartig, offering a powerful reflection on migration and identity – “Where are we going and where do we belong?”
Chocolate is not just sweet and indulgent; it carries a deeper, darker story that must be told. Like many plants, crops, and people, cacao is a migrant that has both inspired and enslaved humanity with its powerful allure.
Cacao has enchanted us for centuries, sparking dreams while fueling a cycle of addictive production and consumption that, at times, led to both physical and mental enslavement.
But a new narrative is emerging in the world of cacao—one of awareness, respect, and transformation. This event seeks to explore and share that fresh perspective. We are looking for a new song, a new story about cacao—one that honors its complex history and celebrates its future.
Through this event, you will hear the story and sounds of cacao, and be invited to experience the magic of a cacao ceremony, where the ancient meets the present.
