The Birdcage (1996)

During the World Pride Opening Event, Rapido will be screening the groundbreaking 90s comedy “The Birdcage” in our Cinema, with an introduction by Max Heldring.

Armand Goldman (Robin Williams) owns the Birdcage, a nightclub in South Beach, Miami. He lives above the club with his partner Albert (Nathan Lane). He is the Birdcage’s headliner, performing as the drag queen Starina. Their fabulous little life is disrupted when Armand’s son gets engaged to the daughter of the ultra-conservative Senator Kevin Keeley (Gene Hackman). Keeley’s political future is at stake due to a sex scandal involving a colleague, and he sees the meeting with his future in-laws as the perfect escape from the media spotlight. But what happens when it turns out that this unusual family falls completely short of his ideal? 

For over 20 years, Rapido has set the standard for unforgettable LGBTQIA+ nightlife experiences, hosting spectacular events across Europe and beyond. Rooted in circuit house culture, they return to Melkweg for the third consecutive year to celebrate their annual Pride Opening Event.
