Sound of View

What Makes the Union of Film and Music So Magical? Why is the scene in The Shining, where young Danny rides his tricycle through the deserted hotel corridors, so incredibly suspenseful when accompanied by Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta? Is it the music? The low-angle camera following closely behind him? Or the combination of the two?
Music shapes the way we experience film — but film also changes how we listen to music.
Sound of View is a unique project by ensemble Postland in which film and music meet each other in new ways. You’ll watch the same specially created silent film (11 minutes long) four times, directed by renowned experimental filmmaker Barbara Meter. Each time, however, it is accompanied by a completely different soundtrack composed by four artists with diverse backgrounds: Yu Oda, Katarzyna Szwed, Friso van Wijck, and Juan Felipe Waller.
The result? Four completely distinct interpretations of the same film. Each version tells a different story, evokes different emotions, and reveals just how powerful and multifaceted the relationship between image and sound can be.
