Social and Book Club - Minor Stories against the Genocide: Reflecting on micro-history and Palestine
*Trigger Warning: sexual assault, state violence*
Don’t miss February’s YOUth ACT Social and Book Club to discuss Minor Detail (2020) by Palestinian author Adania Shibli, translated by Elisabeth Jaquette. A short historical novella that intersects the story of the capture, gang rape and murder of a young Palestinian woman by Israeli soldiers in 1949 in the Negev Desert and the obsessive investigation of this “minor detail” by a woman in modern-day Ramallah.
Grab your book and come with us to Joe's Garage on February 23rd at 14:00 to share your thoughts, feelings, and images from reading this captivating story!
Open to all, regular and new members! Feel free to contact us for questions.
You can find the book at het Fort van Sjakoo bookstore (Jodenbreestraat 24) and other spots.
We can’t wait to see you there!
YOUth ACT Book and Social Club meets every month to discuss a new book. We will also screen films, host speakers, and go to events. Our goal is to create an open, safe community for like-minded (or not-that-like-minded) people to socialise, express themselves, learn from each other, and recover from everyday capitalism and injustice.
