Savitri | Frederic Voorn

Frederic Voorn is a concert pianist and composer. He has given concerts on four continents and performs on both modern and historical keyboard instruments. He has played in venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Tonhalle in Zurich, and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Europe and North America. Since 2005, he has also been active as a composer. His works for piano, chamber music and orchestra are regularly performed and have been released on several CDs. Alongside his concert career, he conducts choirs, gives masterclasses and for many years made radio programmes for NPO Radio 4, including Pianistenuur.

Savitri is an ancient story from the Indian Mahabharata, which also contains the Bhagavad Gita. It tells of the triumph of love over death and is still a popular fairy tale in India today. Frederic Voorn has composed twelve piano works inspired by Savitri, and Odilia van Manen will narrate the story during this literary concert.
