Two evenings honoring the ancient Indian forms of South Indian Bharatanatyam Dance (Monday) and North Indian Traditional Raga (Tuesday).

Sanchari Roy is a Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher from Kolkata, South India.
Bharatanyam dance is the oldest dance form in India and originated in Tamil Nadu. Primarily a temple dance, it embodies a storytelling and devotional style.
Sanchari will perform in the 1st section, an invocatory piece called Puspanjali, after that a Saraswati bhajan, followed by two pieces on lord Krishna.
After the interval, she will perform on Shiva and Shakti (Durga and Kali). These items are set to various South Indian Carnatic raagas and taalas.

This workshop will be informative and interactive.
Sanchari Roy will demonstrate a brief introduction on Bharatanatyam dance. She will show some basic postures, footwork with the taala (beat), and mudras (hand gestures). Active participation is for all levels. You can buy a combined ticket (for workshop + her performance) below.
