Quartetto di Vicini

Quartetto di Vicini
String quartets by Purcell, Haydn, Adès & Janáček

Together with three colleagues from the excellent orchestra Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Nuala founded the Quartetto di Vicini – loosely translated: the Neighbors' Quartet. Their program forges exciting musical and neighborhood bonds, combining Purcell's baroque fantasies with contemporary works by Thomas Adès.

For many enthusiasts, Haydn's Sun Quartets mark the radiant birth of the string quartet. Tolstoy's novella The Kreutzer Sonata, in turn, inspired Leoš Janáček, who based his first quartet on it. In its fiery intensity, this music sometimes evokes an opera for four musicians – and it boldly ventures to the extremes of chamber music.
