Since their 2012 debut album ‘No Passion All Technique’, the Detroit-based post-punk band Protomartyr have mastered the art of evoking a particular atmosphere: both the raw humility of the Midwest in their home city and a piercing analysis of America from their own perspective. Protomartyr, comprising singer Joe Casey, guitarist Greg Ahee, drummer Alex Leonard and bassist Scott Davidson, has over the years become synonymous with biting, impressionistic fusions of politics and poetry, of the literal and the indirect.
