Prateek Kuhad
Prateek Kuhad grew up in Jaipur surrounded by Hindi pop and Bollywood, but during his student days in New York he fell in love with the sober songs of Elliott Smith. With his soft voice and acoustic guitar, he has become one of India’s best-known singer-songwriters. He writes in Hindi and English about falling in love, longing and relationships where the right words usually come too late.
With ‘cold/mess’, Kuhad also made his breakthrough outside India. The track featured on Barack Obama’s annual favourites list in 2019 and took him to venues all over the world. His new album ‘Full Moon Chamber’ was recorded between New York and Los Angeles and reflects the turmoil of recent years. ‘Blush’ is about falling head over heels in love, whilst ‘If I Cannot Be Yours’ remains stuck in longing. It is only later on the album, with tracks such as ‘You Make It Easy’, that Kuhad dares to trust in love a little more.
