Podcastakademie: Mixen en masteren

Podcastakademie: Mixen en masteren

In the Mixing and Mastering course, you will learn from podcast maker Marius Kooij (known for De Groentjes, Jonge Jaren) how to improve the audio quality of your recordings through post-production in your editing software. During the course, you will learn why mixing and mastering are actually necessary, how to ensure a podcast is easy to listen to even in noisy environments, and how to give your productions their own unique sound.

By the end of the course, you will have a simple strategy to improve sound and make your recordings publish-ready according to standard podcast quality requirements. This course is taught using the (free) editing software Reaper, but the theory applies to all editing programs. It doesn’t matter what kind of podcast you make!

– When: Wednesday, May 6, 13 & 20, 2026, from 7:15 PM to 9:45 PM
– Registration deadline: April 22, 2026
– Instructor: Marius Kooij

Session 1 (May 6)
Why is mixing necessary? You’ll learn this during the first session. Marius will also explain how to properly prepare your mix. Finally, we’ll cover the effect equalizer (EQ): what is the frequency spectrum and how does EQ work exactly?

Session 2 (May 13)
In this session, you’ll learn more about the importance of compression and dynamics. How can you make automation work for you? And why is it useful to work with a so-called ‘mix bus’?

Session 3 (May 20)
You will make your mix publish-ready through mastering. What is mastering? We’ll also discuss your mindset when mixing and cover the last important points for the mixing and mastering process — such as: where are you in the (mix) chain?

The Instructor
During his studies at the conservatory, Marius became fascinated by the other side of the process: recording and mixing. He noticed that he especially enjoyed making voices sound calm and pleasant.

He now does this for his own podcast De Groentjes, but also for Jonge Jaren and many other talk shows. Besides the craft of podcast mixing, Marius hopes to share the joy he experiences while mixing!

You should have experience with a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), and preferably have edited a podcast before (with or without mixing and mastering). If you’re unsure about your skills or material, please contact us at akademie@podcastnetwerk.nl.

“The part that is often forgotten when learning to make podcasts. But it is essential to make what you create sound good and clear. It seems very difficult, but once you understand it, a whole new world opens up.”
“Just tinker and experiment and keep listening!”
