Patricio Wang and friends

A concert centered around the music of Chilean-Dutch composer Patricio Wang. Wang studied at the Conservatory in The Hague, where he arrived as a refugee in 1976.
In addition to becoming a member of the group Hoketus, he took composition lessons with Louis Andriessen and co-founded the ensemble Amankay with fellow refugees and musician friends. Their music, rooted in Chilean traditions, was often heard during the many protests against Pinochet.
The music performed this evening highlights the many facets of Patricio as both a performer and a composer.
Alongside traditional and popular music from Chile, new works by Wang will be performed, revealing striking similarities between Chilean and Dutch musical cultures.

Programme includes:
Patricio Wang – Ciclo Mistraliano, 7 songs for mezzo-soprano, violin, and piano, based on texts by the Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral (Nobel Prize for Literature, 1945)
Volksmuziek from Latin-America, Violeta Parra, Víctor Jara, Chilean and South-American protest songs.
