Denmark. After fifteen years behind bars for a bank robbery, the surly loner Anker (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) steps back into freedom with just one desire: to dig up the loot he once had safely stashed away. It lies buried in a spot only his brother Manfred (Mads Mikkelsen) knows the way to — but Manfred is no longer the man he left behind. Marked by a dissociative disorder, he is convinced he is John Lennon, and along with the man he once was went any memory of the hiding place. To recover the money, Anker has to find a way to unlock his brother’s mind, and together the two end up on a quest as absurd as it is moving — in search of the loot and of who they really are. Director Anders Thomas Jensen shapes his pitch-black comedy about brotherhood, identity and the frayed edges of ‘normal’ into a striking showcase for Mads Mikkelsen, and it premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
