Outdoor cinema Amsterdam: Queer (2024) at Pllek (Amsterdam Noord, NDSM-Wharf)
Mexico City, the 1950s. American expat William Lee (Daniel Craig) drifts through his days in a haze of drink, cigarettes and fleeting encounters, longing deep down beneath his eloquent exterior for a real, mutual connection. That connection suddenly appears in the form of Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey), a young, reserved former soldier who draws Lee towards him like a magnet, yet remains elusive and keeps him guessing about what he himself desires. As the fascination grows into an all-consuming obsession, the two men travel deeper into South America together, in search of a legendary drug that holds the promise of total union. Director Luca Guadagnino turned William S. Burroughs’ semi-autobiographical novella into a sultry, hallucinatory dream, which premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival.
