OnMigration Ontmoetingsmiddag | Draagvlak voor migratie

On Wednesday afternoon, September 17, we bring together people who work with — or for — migrants and refugees. Professionals, volunteers, policymakers, thinkers and doers.

Throughout the afternoon, we share stories, insights and experiences. In an informal setting, with room for conversation, creativity and reflection.

OnMigration is for everyone working toward a more just society. You’ll leave with new ideas, fresh connections and practical tools to keep building.

For whom?
Anyone professionally or voluntarily engaged with migration issues.

Participation is free! Sign up using the button on this page.

As in previous years, this afternoon offers plenty of space for exchange, dialogue and reflection. The programme consists of short 20-minute sessions — mini-workshops, talks and discussions — from which you can choose six to create your own path through the day.

Here’s a sample of what to expect:

What do we learn from the public?
In four Dutch municipalities, OnMigration held online public consultations about living together with refugees. What do the outcomes tell us about support and policy?

The serious game: Nederland Migratieland
Join asylum expert Paul van Driest and step into the shoes of a policymaker. Experience the dilemmas and tensions of migration policy firsthand.

Mini-lecture: Who are the 'authoritarians'?
What does this group, marked by a strong need for order and discomfort with diversity, mean for how we communicate?

Working with strategic frames
Apply tools like the Polarisation Model (Bart Brandsma), the Moral Foundations Theory (Jonathan Haidt), and Anat Shenker-Osorio’s framing strategies. How do these translate to communication and policy?

Practice Deep Canvassing
This US-born conversation method helps foster real connection, even with people who think differently than you do. We'll try it out through roleplay.

Dealing with resistance
Every municipality and organisation encounters it: local opposition to the arrival of refugees. How can we respond constructively and effectively? We'll explore it together.

How can we strengthen support for migration in a polarised climate?
That question drives the team behind OnMigration.

OnMigration started as a search for new common ground — a space to share knowledge and experiences while acknowledging different perspectives. It has since grown into a hub and knowledge centre for professionals, governments, companies and civil society organisations. Together, we’re working toward lasting, practical solutions that strengthen the position of migrants and refugees in the Netherlands.
