🎬 On the Beach at Night Alone (2017)

Hong Sang-soo | 2017 | South Korea | 101’ | EN subtitles

The film in two parts tells the story of Young-hee, an actress who left Seoul after her affair with a married director became public. Young-hee meets friends at the movies, for dinner and drinks, and a walk on the beach, reflecting on her relationship. On the Beach at Night Alone is a classic Hong Sang-soo - minimal, quiet, and funny, with a clear autobiographical element as it stars his primary muse Kim Min-hee (from Park Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden), the actress who became his wife after their highly publicized affair scandalized the Korean cinema world and left her ostracized from the mainstream.
