Nils Wogram Root 70

“Old-fashioned” is a term that today expresses a conscious resistance to trends. The new album by Nils Wogram's band Root 70, The Pristine Sound Of Root 70, is old-fashioned in this sense: lively, authentic and decelerating. It draws on the sound of the Gerry Mulligan Bob Brookmeyer Quartet and the Albert Mangelsdorff Quartet of the 60s, but creates something independent.

Wogram and his band - Hayden Chisholm (saxophone), Matt Penman (bass) and Jochen Rueckert (drums) - break away from concepts and focus on timeless, clear forms. The songs are characterized by a narrative attitude that convinces through simplicity and recognizability.

The album was created in the calm of the lockdown, which gave the musicians room for reflection and new approaches. The Pristine Sound Of Root 70 tells stories that seem familiar but are freshly interpreted. Root 70 shows that creative freedom can lie in simplicity and tradition.
