🎬 Mother Trilogy – Three short films by Hoda Taheri

This Thursday, Cavia is proud to present the work of Hoda Taheri, a director from Tehran that currently lives and works in Germany. The three films that will be shown, Mother Prays All Day Long (2022), As If Mother Cried That Night (2023), and Mother is a Natural Sinner (2024), explore separate but common themes, such as abortion rights, the life and rights of refugees in Europe, gender, sexuality, relationships. The films have travelled through several festivals in and out of the Netherlands, and it is now time to have them shown in Amsterdam for the first time.

Mother is a Natural Sinner

Hoda, an Iranian refugee woman, lives in exile in Germany with her boyfriend, Hadi. Due to an unexpected pregnancy, Hoda starts to examine common beliefs regarding gender roles in a relationship and openly challenges the current patriarchal social norms surrounding feminine bodies and motherhood.
