Mîrkut live 🌻Kurdish Dance Band ★ Salón Sonoro
Saturday 10.05.2025 @ Mezrab

We are happy to introduce you to the anachronistic journey of Mirkut!
Kurdish song’s, festive and popular. This band crosses the traditional repertoire with their psychedelic groove rock sound.
Voices are mixed with the Nay and the Tenbûr, traditionals instruments that brings us back to the sources of this music.
The rythm of keys drag us onto the dance floor while drum and bass lead the govend (dance in kurdish)

Kurdistan, what do you mean ?
Kurdish people are living on a territory straddle to Turkey, Syria, Irak an Iran. This nation without country is claming for a state and international recognition since centuries. Many kurdish artists and intellectuals are pushed to the exil because of their aspiration of sovereignty

The combination of Marylou Planchon’s Nay (flute), inspired by Egyptian and Oriental music, with Menad Moussaoui’s bass and Stéphane Gratteau’s drums, who bring a Chaâbi influence, creates a fascinating cross-cultural dialogue. The French and funk rhythms of Alice Grolleron’s keyboards bring yet another layer of diversity to the mix, alongside the guiding presence of Genco Selwa, the electric Tenbûr player from South Kurdistan, whose instrument is integral to the project’s Kurdish roots.

The translation of the name Mîrkut is« pestle/mortar». This tool brings the matter in a new shape. This is about transformation. It’s also the name of the most ancient song the band plays together. A song about collective work, inviting inhabitant to grind the wheat together, and so to guarantee food for the winter.
Mîrkut is a constant and regular rythm that will bring you into trances.
