Scenic Creation: Documentary Practices
Fissures between Fiction and Reality
by Roberto Zayas (Mexico)
The Masterclass “Scenic Creation: Documentary Practices, Fissures between Fiction and Reality” proposes a strategy that provides various research-creation tools to be applied in the design of a scenic proposal that contains archives and documents that are potentially attractive to participants. It aims to investigate the problems facing the current justice systems in Mexico and the Netherlands, based on the experience of TDEE, addressing and bringing to the stage the realities of prisons and justice in Mexico, promoting a culture of peace through theatrical practices. During the workshop, some of the concepts that its director, Roberto Zayas, has worked on will be presented in order to open up the discussion on ways of addressing topics such as memory, testimony, and absence in relation to the idea of living archives, with the aim of exploring the possibilities for creating alternative strategies in artistic and theatrical creation. These strategies can be used to blur the boundaries between the notions of reality and fiction, thus allowing us to move indistinctly from one side to the other to reverse signs, challenge norms, and unbalance certainty.
