Pianist and composer Martin Fondse presents his Diamonds Trio, featuring Margriet Sjoerdsma and Qniverse, in the programme Faces of Earth | Diamonds.
Faces of Earth is a collection of musical portraits of remarkable trees, while Diamonds explores the many facets of the diamond.
Fondse performs on piano, Fender Rhodes and vibrandoneon, leading a hybrid trio with Dutch vocalist Margriet Sjoerdsma and the Chinese-born Qniverse as his musical counterpart. Together they strike a beautiful balance between experience and emerging talent, blending a wide range of musical styles, with Martin Fondse's compositions serving as the connecting thread throughout the programme.
Ancient poetry and stories come together in this performance, ranging from the Epic of Gilgamesh and Shakespeare to Indigenous poets and contemporary original lyrics.
Alongside selections from Faces of Earth and Diamonds, the trio also performs original compositions by Margriet Sjoerdsma and Qniverse.
