Lullaby for Floods

Lullaby for Floods

"What does it mean to lull a world in crisis to sleep - not into silence, but into attunement?"

Composing Lullabies for Floods, for not being afraid of sleeping when rain falls again, is a practice of weatherscaping.

Weatherscaping is the process of entangling the human identity within a broader system, by freeing Identity/Society boundaries aesthetically and practically designing them as the behaviours and emergences of atmospheric phenomena (such as clouds, fogs, flows, ebbs, waves, storms).

Join us for the exhibition opening of artist and architect Letizia Artioli's immersive installation Lullaby for Floods where data weaves into a sonic tapestry of water and turbulence.

The Lullaby for Floods installation will be the creation of a sonic environment and an in-between space connecting us to the Earthly turbulences in the new climate regime : it exchanges our inner floods with external droughts, and we escape our inner droughts to swallow into external floods. The dance of the water particles run as we are spectators of present ruins/future ghosts and composers of present ghosts/future ruins.

Lullaby for Floods is a live sonic composition and a performative installation. The lullaby embeds data from disruptive floods happened between 2024 and 2025, live weather data (the cloud scanning from weather satellite data) at the moment of the live performance, and field recordings of flooded places before and after the flood.

Bodies act like turbulences inside the nebulization. Humans are invited to move into the space during the composition, since rain falls regardless. The work aims to be a lullaby co-composition between humans and water, between the turbulences and flows characterizing our time, where after the floods, crickets and pollinators come back .

The installation will take place at the Sluisdeurenloods at Mediamatic within Aquatope 25-26.

About the Artist

Letizia Artioli is an architect and researcher working on data turbulences, flooding voids and weathering spaces. She is MArtScience at KABK (NL) and PhD candidate at IUAV University (IT). She finds inspiration from her research on voids, ephemeral matters and liquid data in a non-extractive perspective and works on topics such as Data Turbulences, Flooding Voids, and Weathering Spaces.

In her practice, Letizia investigates the relationship between human beings and environmental data as a matter for research and creation.
