La diable dans la nuit

International top talents revive the overlooked music of Henriëtte Bosmans. Soprano Elizaveta Agrafenina, pianist Dimitri Malignan, and violinist Sarah Bayens present the album Le Diable dans la nuit: a powerful tribute to the vocal and chamber music of Henriëtte Bosmans (1895–1952), one of the most original and independent Dutch composers of the twentieth century.

Bosmans was widely celebrated in the 1930s as both a composer and concert pianist, but her legacy faded unjustly after World War II. Her music is expressive, multi-layered, and strikingly modern, with a deeply personal style. The program includes selections from her vocal and instrumental works, including the dramatic title piece Le Diable dans la nuit, the poignant Gebed ("Prayer"), the historical Daar komen de Canadezen ("Here Come the Canadians"), the powerful Sonata for Violin and Piano, and six colorful Preludes for solo piano.

This project is part of the international CD series Missing Voices, which highlights composers whose work was suppressed or forgotten due to war, exclusion, or censorship.
