Despite the fact that squatting is forbidden in the Netherlands, it still continues. For people who actively act for the right to housing, mutual aid is self-evident. Given the reason for squatting, namely the social problem of housing shortage, squatters generally act as a kind of union.
When preparing a squatting action, during the squatting action itself and when you are inside the squat, there is always advice and support from other squatters. People are happy to stand by you almost unconditionally, but you have to take the initiative yourself and you have to make the final choices yourself. In practice, this means that you have to know how to find an empty house yourself, find out for yourself why and how long it has been vacant, put together your own group and ultimately live there yourself. Of course, you can count on practical help as long as you make a clear plan and coordinate its implementation.
