In “Katrien and Jan Willem Sing!”, newly joined Splendor musician Katrien Baerts and seasoned Splendor veteran Jan Willem Baljet present a selection from the 46 songs of Hugo Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch.

In this collection of miniature masterpieces, based on Italian folk poetry, Wolf demonstrates his brilliance by creating a complete world of emotions with just a few notes, harmonic richness, and melodic genius.
He transforms simple love poems into psychologically complex musical dramas, capturing every nuance of human passion—from playful glances of love to heart-wrenching jealousy.
Each song is a perfect synthesis of word and tone, with the piano not merely accompanying but acting as an equal partner.

Alongside Wolf’s songs, beautiful duets by Mendelssohn, Brahms, Britten, and Saint-Saëns will also be performed.
