Jazzy Thursdays: Ilay Shachal Quartet

Playing original compositions by Ilay Shachal, The band’s music aims to bring an emotional and raw spirit to the stage.

Drawing influence from jazz greats such as John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy and Ornette Coleman, from classical composers such as Stravinsky and Debussy and from composers such as Yoni Rechter and Matti Caspi who Ilay grew up listening to.

The quartet is trying to bridge the gap between the theoretical and calculated side of jazz to its most raw, free , and emotional side. 

Ilay’s compositions lie on the spectrum between outright  avant- garde pieces to modern jazz pieces to gentle ballads, all while letting the rest of the band express themselves as much as possible
