Together with Heat, an Agency that represents filmmakers, we present a bi-monthly movie night curated by their wide array of passioned creators, designed for everyone looking to connect and be inspired. Every edition will center around a unique host and their inspiring guests; they’ll select a main film that showcases what they are all about and motivates them within their creative field. And they will take you on a two-hour journey into their vision.
In this edition, Juul Op den Kamp hosts an evening about the power of cinema in political shifts and the role of politics within cinema itself, in the run-up to the national elections on 29 October. Director Juul Op den Kamp (filmmaker of activist and socio-political documentaries such as Onder Druk, In het hoofd van de dokter, Shell & de olieramp in Nigeria, What's Left and What's Right) takes us on a journey through excerpts from existing fiction and documentary films. We will see and discuss images that have inspired her, iconic moments from political cinema and excerpts that provide insight into the making of socially driven impact films.
The evening includes an exclusive screening of the short film The Deciding Vote (1970 – about legislator George Michaels who legalised abortion with one historic vote, thereby sacrificing his political career, directed by Jeremy Workman and Rob Lyons, and nominated for an Emmy). And we will conclude with the final episode of Juul's latest series What's Right – produced by Frenkie Media – about how the dismantling of the welfare state is paving the way for the far right. An episode brimming with political knowledge and urgency, giving us the much-needed fuel to go out and vote. The perfect preparation for 29 October!
Afterwards, we will toast to a better political future during drinks.
