"The spectacularly gifted cellist, Frances-Marie Uitti has made a career out of demolishing musical boundaries. She has developed new techniques (most famously, playing with two bows simultaneously), collaborated with a who's who of contemporary composers, and pushed the cello into realms of unexpected beauty and expression...." Washington Post
A former Splendor Resident, her compositions have been presented in the Biennale di Venezia, Holland Festival, Metz Muziek, Warsaw Festival, etc.
Ms. Uitti has invented a radically extended technique using two bows simultaneously in one hand to create 4, 3, 2 part chords, while having a free left hand to modulate them.
Beside this project with Rolf Wallin, she’s finishing a series of new compositions with Maarten Ornstein based on Tibetan musical scripts from the 900’s.
Rolf Wallin
Rolf Wallin is one of Scandinavia’s leading contemporary composers, widely performed and commissioned internationally. His musical background spans from jazz, avantgarde rock and early music to traditional classical music, and this versatility is reflected in an exceptionally multi-faceted collection of works. Wallin’s output covers a wide range of expressions and techniques: from pure musical expression to music theatre and also installations, from elaborate computer-aided compositions for the concert hall to strongly intuitive music for the stage.
Commissioned by the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, Official Festival Composer for the 2000 Bergen International Festival, commissions by Håkan Hardenberger and other prominent soloists.
His compositions have been presented in the Holland Festival, MaerzMusik, Warsaw Autumn, plus Portrait concert November Muziek, Musica Sacra Festival, etc.
'Wallin’s music is put together with a jeweller’s precision... ' — Andrew Clements, The Guardian
