GMO-Special Menu
This Museum Night, Mediamatic's concept topic, GMO, enters the kitchen at TestTafel. For one night, our chefs are developing a snack menu that makes a commentary on genetically modified ingredients, turning a subject usually discussed through science, regulation and controversy into something you can actually taste. Each snack or drink made for the occasion complements one of the works on display that evening. These bites will be modified to make up a 5- and 3-course menu served at TestTafel the week following the event.
Mediamatic asks how far you’re willing to mutate. We ask something closer to the plate: what do we put in our bodies, and do GMOs belong on it at all? As you make your way around Mediamatic, be sure to grab some snacks to really consider the theme while getting a taste of what GMOs can be and can represent in food.
TestTafel
TestTafel is a plant-based restaurant, creative hub and development kitchen in Mediamatic’s greenhouse. With a new multi-course menu every week, experimentation is built into its approach: local and seasonal ingredients become a testing ground for new dishes and ideas about how food systems could work differently.
For Museumnacht, that experimentation turns to genetic modification. On the night, TestTafel serves a GMO-Special Menu as individual snacks and drinks, developed with Mediamatic’s team and the curated artists. The following week, 11-14 November, the GMO-Special Menu returns as a 3- or 5-course dinner in the greenhouse, while the exhibitions stay on view.
