Fucking Åmål (1998)

Together with Fanclub Centrum, we invite a special "Amsterdammer" every two months to curate a film night. This time, especially for Pride, we have a double bill! With actor and maker Marije van der Made, we’ll be watching Lukas Moodysson’s 1998 romantic drama *Fucking Åmål*. Afterwards, at 9.30 pm, we’ll be watching John Waters’ 1972 cult classic "Pink Flamingos" with DJ, producer and organiser Joost van Bellen; separate tickets are available for this screening.

There isn’t much to do in the dull Swedish provincial town of Åmål. The gloomy teenager Agnes has only lived there a short while and doesn’t fit in. She is secretly in love with Elin, the most popular girl in school, but has nowhere to turn with her feelings. Agnes’s world collapses when Elin humiliates her at her 16th birthday party. But Elin, who becomes fascinated by Agnes’s courage, later regrets it. Slowly, the two grow closer and closer. Fucking Åmål was the debut film by Lukas Moodysson (Together) and won several European film awards.
