Domenico Scarlatti (1685) was a contemporary of Bach and Handel, and is best known for his 555 keyboard sonatas. Because he came into contact at an early age with the newly invented fortepiano, he can be regarded as one of the founders of modern piano technique.

Schumann and Chopin (both born in 1810) were also contemporaries and two of the most important piano composers of the early Romantic era. Schumann greatly admired Chopin, but the feeling was not mutual. Chopin was mainly concerned with himself and his own music.

Ainigma was composed in 2018 by Frederic Voorn (1962) and deals with the riddle of the Sphinx, which Oedipus managed to solve. The work travels through the course of a human life, from early childhood to adulthood and finally to the inertia of old age.
