BARTON FINK (1991) AT PLLEK
Hollywood, 1941. Celebrated Broadway playwright Barton Fink (John Turturro) is lured by the glitter of Hollywood and moves to Los Angeles to write scripts for a film studio. He takes up residence in a stifling room at the decaying Hotel Earle, where he meets his jovial neighbour Charlie Meadows (John Goodman), and the mysterious Audrey Taylor (Judy Davis), whose appearance turns his world even further upside down. But inspiration refuses to come, and what begins as a simple writing assignment unfolds into a dark and surreal nightmare in which the line between reality and madness slowly dissolves. With this film, the Coen Brothers won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as the awards for Best Director and Best Actor for John Turturro.
