Film Screening: Drijfland

Drijfland is about the floating gardens located in the Entrepôthaven in Amsterdam. The starting point is late 1999, when these garden islands were built in the studio and according to the design of Robert Jasper Grootveld. Irregular meetings with Grootveld took place until his death in 2009, and until 2025 with the pioneers who still keep the gardens afloat. The film shows the power of collaboration, aimed at preserving flora and fauna in this unique biotope and the search for alternative bio-based methods for floating land. Robert Jasper Grootveld, visionary and troublemaker, as well as his legacy, is prominently present. Drijfland gaat over de drijvende tuinen die liggen in de Entrepôthaven in Amsterdam. Startpunt is eind 1999 toen deze tuin- eilanden gebouwd werden in het atelier en naar het ontwerp van Robert Jasper Grootveld. Onregelmatige ontmoetingen met Grootveld vonden plaats tot aan zijn dood in 2009 en tot in 2025 met de pioniers die de tuinen nog altijd drijvend houden. De film laat de kracht van samenwerking zien, gericht op behoud van flora en fauna in deze bijzondere biotoop en de zoektocht naar alternatieve bio-based methoden voor drijvend land. Robert Jasper Grootveld, visionair en oproerkraaier, evenals zijn erfgoed, is nadrukkelijk aanwezig.

 

NieuwLand is wheelchair accessible but our toilets are not!! (we are working on it). The nearest public spaces with wheelchair accessible toilets are Tropen Museum (open Tuesday-Saturday 10-17H) and hotel The Manor (open 24/7).
