Originating in the metal and post-industrial scene, Ivan Napreenko retains a strong interest in radical and experimental forms of sonic expression. Even his most abstract or harsh works maintain a pronounced narrative element (see Sal Solaris, Otzepenevshiye, Krugom16). As a sound artist, he explores themes such as personal memory and its plasticity, the human relationship with nature in the Anthropocene, violence, and melancholy. As a curator at NEN Records, Ivan fosters experimental blends of noise, techno, metal, and more, with particular attention to hidden gems of the Russian underground. His sociological/anthropological background informs his practice in multiple way s— from topic selection to the use of sociological methods for collecting data for subsequent use in sound.
