Expo: Fluid Futures

Through waterworks and treatment plants, people seek to control water as much as possible. But what we call ‘contaminated’ or ‘clean’, can mean something quite different to other forms of life. A sink full of soapy water can be far more toxic than a flushed toilet. In Fluid Futures, artists explore the complex relationships between humans, technology and aquatic ecosystems.

From micro-organisms and seaweed cultivation to wastewater treatment and ecological restoration: water connects life forms, technologies, infrastructures and communities. By revealing these connections, the artists respond to urgent climate issues and challenge us to imagine regenerative futures in which people, technology and aquatic ecosystems can flourish together.

With works by Michael Pinsky, Marc Vilanova, Linda Zimmermann, Nassim Versbraegen & Joni De Borger, Eric Klarenbeek & Maartje Dros (Klarenbeek & Dros) and Kerrie O’Leary.

Opening hours

The exhibition Fluid Futures is on display at Waag Futurelab from 8 till 15 November 2026 (closed on 9 November). Doors are open daily from 12:00 till 17:00 hrs. Entrance is free.

Art meets innovation for water sustainability

This exhibition is a result of the project S+T+ARTS AQUA MOTION, that brings together artists, scientists, policymakers, and communities to tackle urgent water challenges. By connecting artistic practice with science, technology, and policy, S+T+ARTS AQUA MOTION challenges conventional approaches and helps shape more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient water futures across Europe.
