Communal lunch with artist Anas Chao in Framer Framed Noord
Framer Framed Noord is a place for and by residents, artists and cultural partners. The programming is organised around three interconnected strands: Mee-Maken (Co-Experience), Samen Maken (Co-Create), and Zelfgemaakt (Self-Made). The brainstorm session is part of ‘co-creating’, which focuses on projects initiated or co-developed by neighbourhood residents. Everyone in the surrounding neighbourhoods is welcome to come together, enjoy Chao’s food and give their input on the programme of Framer Framed Noord. The lunch is inspired by recipes from the neighbourhood.
Additionally, every Monday morning, Framer Framed Noord hosts the Textile Workshop, run by ‘Molenwijk Door Elkaar’. Participants work on their sewing, embroidery or textile projects. Participants in Anas’s Melting Dutch Pot lunch can join the Textile Workshop whilst the food is cooking, read in the other room or strike up a conversation with one another.
Anas Chao was born and raised in Saudi Arabia, but his parents are from Taiwan. As a result, he has come to know both countries and their cuisines well. Previously, he ran a dumpling-making workshop at Werkplaats Molenwijk as part of his project Ministry of Dumplings Affairs, in which he asked participants to bring fillings from home. According to Chao, the filling of a dumpling reveals where you have been and which cultures’ ingredients you bring with you. The different fillings served as the starting point for a dialogue about culture, history and memories of home.
