Cluster Formation Quartet // Sin Palabras - Albert Veenendaal solo piano
Cluster Formation is a project that takes the universe of Anthony Braxton and his “Creative Music” as a starting point for semi-improvised and experimental music.
After studying Anthony Braxton’s extensive body of work, this quartet offers its own interpretation of his music. Composer and improviser Anthony Braxton, born in Chicago, allows for a free interpretation of his work, despite the presence of a large number of written notes. For example, he allows performers to jump from one composition to another and to improvise freely.
The quartet Cluster Formation consists of Vera Morais (voice), Isa Schouten (cello), Bernardo Cruz (percussion/piano), and Hristo Goleminov (tenor saxophone). Based in Amsterdam and Cologne, they bring together elements of contemporary and improvised music through their diverse musical backgrounds. They experiment with and explore Braxton’s numerous compositions and musical instructions, offering new interpretations and perspectives on the work of this eclectic composer.
Sin Palabras. Improvised songs without words. Pianist Albert van Veenendaal: "The title refers back to one of my earliest compositions. I was walking through Madrid when I saw 'no hay palabras palomita mía' scrawled in white letters across a blank wall. That tender text, 'I have no words for it, my darling', has stayed with me, and it forms the guiding thread for this solo concert that tells a story."
