Cinédialoog: All Static & Noise

All Static and Noise follows family members and survivors of the atrocities committed by China against the Kazakh and Uyghur people. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Jewher Ilham. As one of the advocates featured in the documentary, she will reflect on the importance of speaking out and documenting large-scale human rights violations.

In All Static and Noise, director David Novack and producer Janice Englehart bring together the testimonies and voices of those who have been subjected to the state-sponsored oppression and imprisonment in the ‘re-education camps’ taking place in western China. Together these voices highlight the moral dilemma between risking the safety of families back home by speaking out and the necessity of exposing atrocities in the hope that global awareness will bring change.

The documentary honours those who dare to speak out, while asking the difficult questions we need to ask ourselves in today’s globalised economy. Because how can you be sure that the t-shirt you own was not by forced labour? The screening of All Static and Noise follows up the Freedom Lecture by Jewher Ilham on June 19.
