About Ceuvel Watches: Entrepreneurs from Noord

Amsterdam-Noord is bursting with remarkable entrepreneurs. Makers, thinkers, and doers who, with courage and creativity, are shaping the city of the future. This is where initiatives are born that are social, sustainable, and innovative. During Ceuvel Watches: Entrepreneurs from Noord, you’ll meet these entrepreneurs and hear their stories. What drives them, what challenges do they face, and what can you learn from them?

Each evening is curated by a host — an entrepreneur from Noord with an inspiring story. The host selects a film or documentary that connects to their work or fascination and introduces it personally. After the screening, you’ll join the host and other visitors for a conversation, along with a surprising interactive element such as a tasting, demonstration, or mini-workshop.

So, not just a passive film night — but an evening of personal stories and encounters. Expect inspiration, new perspectives, and a chance to experience the entrepreneurial spirit of Noord up close.

Meet the host of this evening: Marleen Dijkhof

Marleen Dijkhof is a shoe repairer, entrepreneur, and inspirer. She stumbled into the craft by chance and discovered how fulfilling and meaningful it can be. From her love of craftsmanship and sustainability, she shows that repairing is more than restoration — it’s an act of care and attention for yourself, your belongings, and the environment.

In her former workshop De Schoenmakerette on the Van der Pekstraat, she combined craftsmanship with creativity. The high demand for repairs taught her much about entrepreneurship, craft, and the value of restoration in an age of throwaway consumption.

During Ceuvel Watches Marleen explores the stories behind our shoes. What do our shoes say about us — and about how we walk through life? Why is the shoemaker on the verge of disappearing, and what does that say about the value we place on the things that literally carry us?

About the film

De Schoenmakerette is a short film by filmmaker and documentarian Jan Scholte, who also lives in Amsterdam-Noord. The film follows shoemaker Marleen Dijkhof in her search for balance between craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, and personal ideals.

What happens when you start something with full conviction, it becomes a success — and you still decide to stop? De Schoenmakerette is an intimate film about the space between dream and deed, between money and meaning. A craft-based odyssey about making choices, finding purpose, and staying true to what truly matters.
