At ISSA MOVIE, we are teaming up with Top Notch to bring iconic and quirky films back to the big screen in our Cinema. And this evening is the first edition, curated by none other than Top Notch founder Kees de Koning, The perfect evening for every film and hip-hop lover, with CB4 from 1993 and What’s Up, Fatlip? from 2003 on the programme.
CB4 is a satirical cult classic starring Chris Rock. The film follows a group of friends who form the rap group Cell Block 4 and launch themselves as gangster rappers. A clever, sharp comedy that dissects hip hop, media and the music industry – and still feels surprisingly relevant and poignant.
What's Up, Fatlip? (2003) is an intimate short documentary by director and writer Spike Jonze (Her, Being John Malkovich) about rapper Fatlip (known from The Pharcyde). A raw and disarming portrait of an artist who candidly reflects on success, doubt and life after fame.
Kees de Koning is the founder and creative force behind Top Notch, the most influential hip-hop and culture label in the Netherlands. The label has been releasing innovative music, films and stories for decades. Frenna, Lijpe, Broederliefde & KA, among others, are part of the Top Notch roster.
Melkweg often hosts different types of programmes at the same time, such as concerts, club nights and films. Please note that there may occasionally be some noise pollution from other programmes during the screening.
