🎬 Can you hear the objects speak? Presented by Asian Movie Night + WYSIWYG + Indeks Collective

A special evening curated by LI Yuchen from Asian Movie Night (NL) in collaboration with WYSIWYG (Den Haag, NL) and in conversation with Indeks Collective (Badung, ID).

Through film, conversation, and performance, we will listen to the voices of ancestral beings held hostage in museums, mineral stones extracted for AI technology, as well as the ghostly presence in the streets of Amsterdam built by looted wealth.

WORKSHOP

Kae Oktorina will facilitate an experimental and participatory workshop in which audiences imagine ways to embody the objects of the “Lombok Treasure” as an entry point to the film Idak-Idak-Idak.

Participants are encouraged to bring:

• A memory of your mother or grandmother. This could be a story, an image, a gesture, a phrase, or simply a memory that has stayed with you.

• A small object that you consider a kind of personal “treasure”, it doesn’t need to be valuable. It could be something inherited, found, made by someone you love, or simply an ordinary object that carries a meaningful memory.

Idak-Idak-Idak is a hybrid-documentary relating the stolen Lombok Treasures with the Sasak diaspora through three generations of women: a daughter, her mother, and her grandmother. Blending full-spectrum cinematography with personal footage, this film moves between Indonesia and the Netherlands to examine colonial legacies, displacement and healing the heart of home. In Sasak, "Idak" can be interpreted as both “heart” and “absence”, becoming a container for memory, loss, and the unseen layers of the self between generations.

Artist Fransisca Angela traces overlapping material histories, revealing pigments not only as materials but as choreographies of bodies and repeated acts of extraction. The work asks: How can performing these instructions challenge or reframe narratives of women’s work and representation in the history of pigment-making? What parallels exist between the chemical instability of pigments and that of handmade film emulsion?
