Ava Lava/David van der Grinten Kwartet

Ava Lava/David van der Grinten Kwartet
For this special occasion Ava Lavá and David van der Grinten join forces with Jo Krause— a jazzdrums veteran who has performed with Benny Golson among others — and double bassist rising star Ton Felices. Together, they will perform a vibrant set of music ranging from songs by Abbey Lincoln and Stevie Wonder, as well as some selections from the Brazilian repertoire. Ava Lavá
Annebelle Valentina Angelique (AVA LAVÁ) is a free-spirited singer, composer, pianist, dancer, and innovative creator. Her musical journey began at the age of six, when she started playing classical piano and singing. She studied jazz music later on, following in the footsteps of her grandfather, Eduard Saroyan, a jazz pianist who performed for the resistance in communist Russia.
Drawn to the spiritual roots of music, she traveled across continents such as Africa and South America to explore places where music remains a sacred expression of devotion and human connection, rather than a commercial pursuit. Her sound is shaped by a rich tapestry of influences. Blending elements of the Black American musical tradition, inspired by the likes of Erykah Badu and Mariah Carey, with the rich rhythmic and harmonic world of Brazilian artists such as Elis Regina. David van der Grinten
Amsterdam-born pianist, keyboardist, and composer David van der Grinten has been slowly but steadily carving his path through the vast landscape of music, piecing together fragments of wisdom in his lifelong quest to becoming a complete artist. As a former member, composer, and performer with the acclaimed jazzrock band SMANDEM., he has performed on renowned stages including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Het Concertgebouw, and Paradiso, and contributed to both a successful EP and a full-length album.
His musical journey later brought him to New York City, where he spent two transformative years earning his master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music. During his time in New York, he had the privilege of studying with current day jazz masters such as Fred Hersch, Aaron Parks, and Jason Moran.
Through his work, David seeks to express music that feels honest, playful, and touched with mystery—a reflection of both his curiosity and his commitment to authentic artistic growth.
