Arti Shuffles Jonge Musici: Isaure & Christian Johannes
Isaure & Christian Johannes Songwriter Isaure and composer Christian Johannes come together for an evening of classical music and folk tunes. Their acoustic set of piano, guitar and vocal weaves together different repertoires: Isaure’s intimate songs with classical pieces, laying words on the melodies of Debussy, Ravel, Satie, Bach...
Isaure [she/her] is a French singer songwriter based in Amsterdam. Her music takes roots in folk, with a particular taste for melody and storytelling. Seeing her live is like witnessing a conversation between herself and her guitar, where they exchange about their favorite animals, food metaphors, love - which seems to be at the bottom of it all -, and when awkwardness happens. Isaure’s songs are like jam jars on a shelf. A collection of moments sealed in time, and neatly treasured. As time goes by, the songs infuse, until perfectly pickled or sirupy sweet. Turning life’s fruit into a good snack, could that be what music is about?
Christian Johannes [he/him] is an Amsterdam-based Dutch/Surinamese {de}composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He mainly works in electro-acoustic formats, and is deeply involved with folk, glitch and environmental sound, and synthesising these aesthetics. In his recently released debut album glitch_folk:a.manifesto:, Johannes reworks 8 death-related folk tunes, decomposing and breaking them down using digital means, with the aim of learning to let go of things that you love.
